Time 4 Learning

  1. For this program the purpose is to focus on the students strengths and weaknesses so that the student will have a solid reading and math base. This program is for second graders but can be changed for any grade and focuses on math and reading for the second grade part.
  2. From what I can tell this software program contains all of the categories; drill and practice, tutorial, simulation, instructional game, or problem solving. This site looks like it would be great for any student, teachers, or parent and there is even a free trial so you could try the program out.
  3. I could make different stations around the room. Like one a science station, one a reading station which they could use this program on the computers, and one a math station where they do math problems on a handout. This would also be used for a second grade classroom.
  4. The strengths of this program are that it focuses in on what the students have troubles with helping them excel with it in future. The weakness is that it only focuses on reading and math.
  5. There is a free demo but it doesn’t say how long. After that the program is $19.95 a month for one child and $14.95 a month or each additional child. This program can be purchased at https://www.time4learning.com/second-grade.shtml.

Reader Rabbit
  1. The grade level for the specific program I’m looking at is second grade. This program includes so many great important things second graders need to learn like math, science, grammar and problem-solving skills. The students run through this program learning these skills while trying to help free Reader Rabbit.
  2. I also think that this software program contains all the categories but focuses on the instructional game. Although it has drills and practices, tutorials, simulations, and problem solving all involved in the game it focuses on the game idea to get the students interested.
  3. For this program I could take time from the day and have each student play the game and record their skills and progress to see if it actually beneficial to them.
  4. I think there are many strengths to this program it involves almost every aspect that a second grader needs to understand and puts it in a way that will keep their interest. The downfall to this program would be students might just see it as a game and not care about how they do on the actual learning part.
  5. This program is only $14.95 for a 2 cd-rom set. You can purchase this program at http://www.softwareforkids.com/children-software/2nd-grade/27806.html.

JumpStart 2nd Grade

  1. The grade level for this is also second grade. This program includes math, reading, writing, art, music, science, and social studies. And is a game where how you do on the learning games puts on higher levels.
  2. This soft wear also contains all the categories and focuses on each one about the same. Having used this program before myself it was a very fun and great way to get students thinking while they are having fun playing games and working their way through problems without them really realizing that they are learning.
  3. Using this program I would also probably do what I did in the Reading Rabbit. Seeing that it is a similar program it would be beneficial to take time out in the day for the students to play on these programs.
  4. I think this program only has strong points it hits every topic and is such a great way for students to learn.
  5. This C.d. set is $19.95 and comes with a 4 c.d. set.

School Zone
  1. Like I have been in all the previous questions I’m still focusing on second grade but this program has a wide variety for every student. It has programs for math, reading and spelling.
  2. This soft wear contains mainly drill and practice, and problem solving. These games focus more on just the learning not really on achieving higher levels in a game. But focus more on drilling you while making it fun.
  3. For this program I could print off papers from the programs or make a lesson involving one of the lessons and put it in the class and have the students work on them.
  4. This programs strong point is that it focuses more on the students learning instead of making sure it incorporates a game. The weak point is that its only reading, math, and spelling.
  5. These programs are all on separate discs and range from the cost of $9.99 to $15.99

Arthur’s 2nd Grade

  1. I’m also focusing on second grade. This program has Reading, Spelling, Synonyms and Antonyms, Compound Words, Arithmetic, Measurement, Telling Time, Story Writing, Arts and Crafts, Drawing and Coloring, Geography, Categorization, and Patterns and Sequences.
  2. This soft wear also contains every category.
  3. For this program I think it would be more of a at home learning thing that parents should encourage their child to do.
  4. This programs strong point is that it has so many options of what the students can do and who doesn’t love Arthur. Its weakness would be that it would be hard to use in classroom time.
  5. This program cost $12.49 and you can get it from http://www.alleducationalsoftware.com/xs32805.html.
